About Cleaver Index
An independent, searchable index of every meat establishment approved in England, Wales and Northern Ireland — built from the official register.
Cleaver Index lists the slaughterhouses, cutting plants, game handling establishments, mince and meat preparation sites, meat product plants and animal by-product processors that hold an approval number under retained Regulation (EC) 853/2004.
Each plant page shows what the approval covers — section by section and species by species — together with the local authority, region, parliamentary constituency and the year the plant first appears in the monthly lists we compared (April 2018 onwards).
We do not add opinions, ratings or commercial listings. Figures are recalculated from the source files at every update; if a plant has asked the regulator to withhold its address, we show only its council and region.
